Microsoft Abandons PowerPoint

Recently I have been talking a lot about excellence in the way we present media in the church.  It never ceases to amaze me how many people think that PowerPoint is the greatest thing since sliced bread.  I almost wish the following article was true.  Check out Microsoft Abandons PowerPoint

I've been wondering when the PowerPoint thing is going to run it's course. I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing--some people know how to use it effectively for presentations. I do think it's being used as a crutch sometimes. Just out of curiosity, if PowerPoint fell off the face of the earth, what would smaller churches use for media presentation on Sunday mornings?

You are right Rick, PowerPoint is not necessarily a bad thing. If you have the capabilities to create presentations with something far superior to PowerPoint then you should be using that. If PowerPoint is all that you have then use it to the best of your ability for the glory of God.
As far as no PowerPoint I believe it is better to do without then to present badly.

Excellent point--And since you first posted this, I have looked into Media Shout, which is something I hadn't seen before. It looks really impressive.

I agree with you: A poorly done PowerPoint presentation is worse than none at all. I was at a church about a year ago that used about 10 different fonts and layout schemes, and it looked really tacky. Then again, the people running PowerPoint this way aren't going to do any better of a job with a higher-end presentation tool.
